We’re an after-school financial literacy program that meets weekly, our workshop is structured to prepare the young adults for the real-life financial challenges awaiting outside high school. Our courses are designed to be informative, engaging, and real! By taking an active problem-solving approach, students are learning through practice. Instruction focuses on solving scenarios presented in each lesson by experts in the field, so students are prepared when they encounter financial matters in the real world. The lessons target modern concepts like navigating credit scores, interest rates, repaying loans and more!
Having a strong foundation of financial literacy becomes essential as teenagers begin to want, need and use money more often. Becoming familiar and knowledgeable with core financial concepts would boost their confidence and allow them surf through budgeting, spending, writing a check, and reading the paystub with certainty.
Common sense isn’t always common, this is true about young adults facing the life outside school. We are expected to know so much about banking when opening our first checking account, know what credit score is when applying for a credit card, know insurance types before accepting a plan for our car, know how to read our paycheck and know how to apply for FAFSA when graduating high school. This, in many cases, becomes a burden on teens and their parents leaving them overwhelmed and confused. This program is created to lay the foundation and provide tools to tackle these challenges one lesson at a time, to better equip the young adults to enter the workforce and college confidently and securely. Practical tools and resources, “Try It” activities give participants opportunities to practice what they learned in a variety of contexts. “Apply It” activities help participants apply what they have learned to their own lives, either during or after the training.
